Of all the rooms in your home, it is probably the kitchen that needs the most care as you prepare your food in it. It is also the one space that can quickly get cluttered and dirty. Here are 10 best cleaning tips to keep your kitchen looking clean and smelling fresh.

The kitchen appliances, and utensils you use, all need a lot of cleaning and maintenance. Here are a few suggestions that may help to make your life easier:

  • Cleaning Spills
Mop up and clean spills on the counter as soon as you finish cooking. For dried-up spills, use a clean dry cloth to wipe it off and then clean it with water. On grease stains, sprinkle some baking soda and spray some water. After a few minutes, you can easily wipe it off.
  • Cutting boards
Sprinkle baking soda on your cutting board. Use half a lemon or even lemon peel after the juice has been squeezed out to rub this powder all over the board, then rinse it well.
  • Clean your microwave
Put a few wet paper towels or a cup of water mixed with lemon juice in the oven. Switch it on for a few minutes. The steam will help loosen the residues left in the oven. Remove the paper towels or cup, then wipe your oven clean with a microfiber cloth.
  • Ceramic tiles in your kitchen
To clean cooking stains and backsplashes, dip a cloth in rubbing alcohol, and wipe the tiles with it. This cleans and also disinfects the titles.
  • Clean your fridge
Check and remove any overripe or smelly food items from your fridge every few days. When you want to thoroughly clean your fridge, clean with a paste of vinegar and baking soda, this is a potent homemade cleaner.
  • Cast iron pans
Avoid the use of dishwashing soap and scrubs, just apply a coating of salt on your pan, then rinse it. After the pan dries, apply a thin coating of any cooking oil, to keep the pan in good condition.
  • Dishwasher
Remove the filter from your dishwasher, use a small brush or a cleaning scrub to scrape off the food deposits, then clean the filter using warm water.
  • Blender Jar
Immediately after you have used the blender, take the empty jar to the sink, fill it halfway or less with water, add one or two drops of mild dish soap. Then, put the jar on the blender, run it again for a minute. Pour out the soap solution and rinse the jar.
  • Kitchen Cabinets
Make a paste of one part mineral oil and two parts baking soda, prepare enough paste to cover the number of cabinets you have. Apply this paste over the cabinet surface, this will help remove the grime and dirt deposits. Wipe off the paste with a clean cloth and then use a gentle cleaner to remove the oil.
  • Clear the air
Remove kitchen odors by simmering some vinegar in a small pan. To give a refreshing smell to your kitchen, fill a saucepan with water, throw in some lemon or orange peels (or both) then simmer it on a low heat for an hour or so.
